Araqchi made the remarks during a Friday night telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, in which the two sides discussed regional and international developments, particularly the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
The Iranian foreign minister explained the latest developments in the diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the US-Israeli imposed war against Iran. He said the US’ history of failing to honor commitments, repeated betrayal of diplomacy, military aggression against Iran, contradictory positions, and excessive demands have disrupted the talks being mediated by Pakistan.
Araqchi nevertheless emphasized that Iran, despite its strong suspicions toward Washington, has engaged in the diplomatic track with full seriousness and responsibility in pursuit of a reasonable and just result.
The two officials also discussed issues related to the ongoing Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) being held in New York.
For his part, Guterres rejected the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and underscored the need to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter and pursue diplomatic solutions to establish peace and stability in the region.
