In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the aggressive action of the “terrorist US military” in targeting an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and attacking a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island.
The ministry said the attacks were launched in the early hours of June 3 from the territory of two regional countries.
The statement said the aggressive actions not only constitute a violation of the April 8 ceasefire understanding, but also represent a blatant breach of the fundamental principle prohibiting the use of force under Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The Foreign Ministry also condemned the US’ “colonial use” of the territory and facilities of regional countries to advance aggressive schemes against Iran, stressing the “direct and clear responsibility” of the rulers of Kuwait and Bahrain in connection with the recent attacks.
It emphasized that any country allowing aggressors to use its land, maritime territory, airspace, facilities or military bases to carry out or support military aggression against Iran is in clear violation of the fundamental rules of international law and the principle of good neighborliness.
According to the statement, such actions are considered an act of aggression against Iran under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3314.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, in exercising its inherent right to defend Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, will use all available capacities to counter aggressive actions, including by targeting the origin and source of such attacks,” the ministry warned.
It added that responsibility for the consequences arising from the current situation rests with the “US-Zionist aggressors” and all parties that assist them in committing acts of aggression against Iran by placing their territory and facilities at their disposal.
