Qalibaf, who heads Iran’s negotiating delegation, and Araqchi traveled to Oman on Tuesday as part of the Iranian delegation known as “Minab 168” following talks with the US in Switzerland.

The delegation arrived in Muscat late Monday and was welcomed at the airport by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi.

According to the Oman News Agency (ONA), “The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran issue a joint statement in which Oman affirms its support for the ‘Islamabad’ Memorandum of Understanding signed between the USA and Iran, emphasizing the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination to support its successful implementation.”

“Joint Statement: The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the two coastal states bordering the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirm their steadfast commitment to ensuring safe passage through the Strait in full conformity with the relevant provisions of international law, while underscoring their sovereignty and sovereign rights over their respective territorial waters in the Strait. The two sides also deliberated on matters relating to the Strait in accordance with the provisions set forth in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” ONA said in a post on its X account.

“The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran affirm that all arrangements pertaining to the Strait of Hormuz must fully respect the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the two Strait states. The two sides renew their unwavering commitment to preserving the Strait of Hormuz as a safe and open maritime passage for international navigation, and emphasise the imperative of continued cooperation to reinforce maritime safety, safeguard the freedom of navigation and uphold regional stability,” it added.
