President Pezeshkian, who traveled to Pakistan on Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation, held discussions with Prime Minister Sharif on bilateral relations, regional developments, economic cooperation, and international issues. The Iranian president expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s warm reception, saying the two countries share common goals and a common path.
Referring to recent regional tensions, Pezeshkian condemned the US and Israeli aggression against Iran, saying the attacks lacked legal justification and resulted in casualties among officials and civilians, including 168 schoolchildren in Minab.
He said Iran’s adversaries had miscalculated by assuming the country would collapse within days, adding that the Iranian people, Armed Forces, and leadership remained united and prevented their objectives from being achieved.
The president stated that attempts to target infrastructure and civilians had failed to weaken Iran and instead demonstrated the country’s resilience.
Reaffirming Iran’s position on national defense, Pezeshkian said there had been no negotiations and there would be no negotiations over Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities. While voicing deep mistrust toward the US based on previous diplomatic experiences, he emphasized that Iran remains committed to dialogue and peaceful engagement.
He also underlined that Iran would not accept illegal or unjust demands while remaining committed to its international obligations as long as agreed frameworks are respected by all parties.
Highlighting Iran’s long historical legacy and civilization, Pezeshkian rejected claims that the country could be weakened or erased, stressing the continuity of its national identity.
The president further called for greater unity among Muslim nations, saying Islamic countries share common religious values and should resist attempts to create divisions for external interests.
He reiterated Iran’s readiness to deepen relations with Islamic countries, particularly Pakistan, and said Tehran and Islamabad should translate their close political ties into stronger practical cooperation and future agreements.
For his part, Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the Iranian delegation and described the visit as especially significant in light of recent regional developments.
He referred to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, alongside other regional actors, to support ceasefire initiatives and reduce tensions, citing the involvement of leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt.
Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s defense capabilities and stated that missile-related issues had not been included in any memorandum of understanding and were not under discussion.
Describing Iran as a great civilization, he said Tehran and Islamabad currently enjoy one of the strongest periods in bilateral relations.
The Pakistani prime minister also called for increasing bilateral trade from current levels toward $30 billion annually through expanded transit connectivity, enhanced banking cooperation, and customs facilitation, describing Iran-Pakistan ties as an iron friendship rooted in history and mutual trust.
