Spokesman Decries US’ Contradictory Stance on MoU

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei criticized the US for a lack of sincerity and contradictory positions regarding understandings with Iran, stressing that Tehran will continue to act with vigilance and based on past experience.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, Baqaei responded to recent remarks and shifting statements by US officials concerning a memorandum of understanding on ending the US-Israeli war of aggression imposed on Iran.

Highlighting Iran’s historical distrust of US commitments, he underlined that Tehran had nonetheless entered diplomatic processes in good faith, and warned against misinterpretations of agreed texts.

“The US governing establishment has never demonstrated sincerity in its conduct toward the Iranian nation. While Iran had valid reasons for such mistrust, it nevertheless entered the diplomatic process in good faith and signed the memorandum of understanding to end the imposed war,” Baqaei explained.

“Iranians are aware that the hostility of the enemy does not end with the signing of an understanding, and they will take every step with vigilance and in light of the experiences of the past five decades, especially the developments of the past year and a half,” the spokesman added.

“Contradictory statements by US officials regarding the memorandum of understanding to end the imposed war will not help reduce the accumulated mistrust of Iranians; rather, they only serve as a reminder of past breaches of commitments,” Baqaei said.

“The US governing establishment must understand that the principle of ‘commitment for commitment’ requires reciprocal fulfillment of obligations and avoidance of interpretations that are entirely contrary to the explicit text of the memorandum of understanding,” he emphasized.
