In a telephone conversation on Saturday evening with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto, Araqchi conveyed the condolences of the Iranian government and people to the government and nation of Venezuela, particularly to the families of those killed in the earthquake.
He emphasized that Iran stands prepared to dispatch rescue and relief teams and to offer any necessary assistance to help alleviate the suffering of the affected population and support ongoing emergency response efforts in Venezuela.
The Venezuelan foreign minister, for his part, expressed appreciation for Iran’s solidarity and humanitarian support, including messages of sympathy from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the foreign minister.
Gil Pinto briefed his Iranian counterpart on the latest rescue operations underway. He also thanked Tehran for its supportive stance and reaffirmed the importance of continued friendly relations between the two countries.
As of June 27, authorities have confirmed that at least 1,430 people have died and another 3,238 have been injured following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the north of Venezuela on June 24.
More than 2,000 rescue workers from 27 countries have been deployed to Venezuela to locate people trapped under the rubble.
