Speaking at the signing ceremony of Kazakhstan’s investment agreement at Shahid Rajaee Port on Sunday, Mohammad Shakibinasab, managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran, described the deal as an important step toward attracting foreign investment and advancing the International North-South Transport Corridor.
He said the agreement guarantees the annual transit of 1.5 million tons of goods through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that achieving this target would increase Iran’s share of the regional transit market and improve key economic indicators.
Shakibinasab noted that the project is also expected to boost transit revenues and strengthen the position of Iranian ports within international transport and logistics chains.
Highlighting Kazakhstan’s strategic role in regional transportation networks, he said the Central Asian country is one of the region’s major logistics and transit hubs and can play a more active role in developing the North–South corridor.
Shakibinasab also emphasized that the project’s economic and social benefits extend beyond trade growth, saying it will generate new employment opportunities, improve port infrastructure efficiency, revitalize ports along the corridor, and significantly expand trade relations between Iran and Kazakhstan.
