Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held talks with the Iraqi prime minister in Baghdad on Sunday during his visit to Iraq for consultations with senior officials.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the continuation of political consultations, stronger bilateral coordination, and expanded cooperation aimed at securing mutual interests, preserving regional security and stability, and combating terrorism.

Referring to the deep ties of friendship between Iraq and Iran, Faleh al-Zaidi stressed that Iraq’s new government is committed to developing relations with Iran in all areas.

For his part, Araqchi conveyed a congratulatory message from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the formation of Iraq’s new government and reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to consolidate and expand relations with Iraq in all sectors.

The Iranian foreign minister described the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, security, trade, cultural, and people-to-people fields as serving the common interests of both nations and contributing to stronger regional stability and security.

Araqchi also outlined the latest diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the imposed US-Zionist war against Iran and stressed the importance of all regional countries safeguarding peace and security, particularly by preventing aggressor parties from using their territories and facilities to launch unlawful attacks against Iran.

He further underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination and cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad and expanding bilateral ties across all areas of mutual interest.
