In a meeting with Iraq's National Security Adviser Qasim al-Aboudi, held in Baghdad on Sunday, Araqchi expressed Iran’s readiness for dialogue and interaction among the Persian Gulf countries to establish a collective security mechanism.
He also hoped that, drawing lessons from developments over recent months, all regional states would work toward shaping a regional security architecture that includes all countries of the region, excludes interference by extra-regional military powers, and encompasses security, economic, and development dimensions.
The Iranian foreign minister described the military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran as a war against the entire region.
Referring to Iran’s responsible approach in entering diplomatic processes to end the war of aggression, he also outlined US breaches of commitments and repeated violations of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
Araqchi also stressed the necessity for all regional countries to work toward establishing an endogenous, consensus-based mechanism to ensure lasting peace and security, free from foreign military intervention.
For his part, Iraq’s National Security Advisor highlighted the deep bonds between the two neighboring Muslim nations and described the support provided by Iran to Iraq—particularly in the fight against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists—as unforgettable.
The two sides further discussed Iran-Iraq cooperation to strengthen shared security, particularly border security, as well as the full implementation of the bilateral security cooperation agreement aimed at preventing and countering terrorism.
