Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor for security affairs of Khuzestan Province, said the US targeted a location on the outskirts of Ahvaz in the latest act of aggression against Iran.
He said three people were martyred in the attack, while several others sustained injuries.
Emergency and medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, and relief and treatment operations for the wounded are underway, Hayati added.
The deputy governor said authorities are still assessing the dimensions of the incident and the extent of the damage.
The strike came amid a broader wave of US attacks on several parts of Iran. According to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), American aircraft targeted multiple areas in the country's southern coastal provinces, as well as a bridge in the northern province of Golestan.
Iran responded by launching a retaliatory missile and drone operation against four major US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The IRGC said its naval and aerospace forces struck key infrastructure at the Arifjan and Ali al-Salem bases in Kuwait and the Juffair and Sheikh Isa bases in Bahrain in the first phase of a punitive response, warning that any further American aggression would trigger broader and more crushing strikes against additional US military installations across the region.
