Araqchi, UN Envoy Discuss Lebanon, Regional Peace Efforts

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and United Nations Special Representative for Lebanon Jean Arnault discussed the latest developments in Lebanon, regional security, and efforts to consolidate the Iran-US ceasefire agreement.

Arnault, who is in Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met with Araqchi on Sunday afternoon.

The UN envoy expressed his condolences over the martyrdom of late Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and a number of Iranian officials and civilians during the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, stressing the importance of concerted international efforts to promote peace and stability across the region.

He also briefed the Iranian foreign minister on the latest developments in Lebanon and the United Nations' efforts to reinforce the ceasefire and help bring an end to the conflict.

Arnault voiced hope that the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Termination of the War between Iran and the United States, alongside greater regional cooperation, would pave the way for durable peace and security, particularly in Lebanon.

Araqchi, for his part, thanked the UN official for conveying his condolences and strongly condemned the repeated unlawful US attacks against Iran, violations of the arrangements governing the Strait of Hormuz, and the Israeli regime's continued military aggression and terrorist acts against Lebanon.

The Iranian foreign minister said the US bears responsibility for the dangerous consequences of the escalating situation because of its repeated violations of the agreement, and called on the United Nations to adopt a clear and firm stance in condemning US acts of aggression.

He also reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran's unwavering support for the Lebanese people, the country's territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and stressed the need to end the Zionist regime's aggression and occupation of Lebanese territory.
