In a statement on Monday evening, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei denounced the attack, saying it constituted a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, as well as an infringement of Yemen’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He said the attack was contrary to ongoing efforts to establish peace and stability in Yemen and incompatible with the 2022 ceasefire agreement and subsequent understandings aimed at preventing further escalation.
Baqaei stressed that attacks on a civilian airport and actions endangering the safety and security of a passenger aircraft amount to a flagrant breach of international aviation law and are wholly unacceptable.
He warned that such reckless actions jeopardize the political process and ongoing efforts to reach a peaceful settlement of the Yemen crisis.
The spokesman also reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to provide any assistance necessary to support the political process and help implement the roadmap for achieving lasting peace and stability in Yemen.
