President Urges Expansion of Renewable Energy Technologies in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for a major expansion of clean and renewable energy production, setting a target of generating 30,000 megawatts of electricity from renewable sources over the next two years.

Pezeshkian made the remarks on Tuesday morning during a ceremony marking the inauguration of two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 95 megawatts in Tehran Province, including a 63-megawatt plant and a 32-megawatt facility.

Expressing appreciation for efforts to promote the use of clean and renewable energy, the president said the country should aim to significantly increase its renewable generation capacity in the coming years.

“We expect to generate 30,000 megawatts through clean and renewable energy over the next two years,” he said.

Pezeshkian also stressed that alongside expanding renewable energy, greater attention should be paid to making efficient use of available land and facilities.

He called for coordination with academics and agricultural experts to explore the cultivation of medicinal plants at solar power sites and make productive use of the water used to wash solar panels.

The president further pledged full support for domestic investors and manufacturers involved in producing solar panels, stressing that there would be no restrictions on supporting the expansion of domestic solar-panel production.

Pezeshkian concluded by emphasizing the need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, saying, “With improved efficiency in the use of clean and renewable energy, we need to save ourselves from fossil fuel consumption through proper management and planning and support our producers and industrialists.”
