Iran Calls for Muslim Unity to Boost Regional Stability

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for stronger cooperation among Muslim countries, saying greater regional unity is essential to promoting security, peace and stability across the West Asia region.

Pezeshkian made the remarks at a meeting with Head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan and his delegation, held in Tehran on Tuesday.

The president thanked Iraq’s government and people for helping organize commemorations for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and for hosting Iranian pilgrims during the Arbaeen religious observance – the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

The Iranian president said Muslim countries should expand cultural, commercial, social, political and economic ties, arguing that closer cooperation could help the region confront common adversaries, including the US and the Israeli regime.

Pezeshkian also warned that foreign powers are seeking to exploit the region’s vast natural resources and strategic wealth by creating divisions, conflicts and wars, his official website reported.

He said vigilance and unity among regional countries are necessary to prevent external powers from benefiting from instability.

The president also called for greater efforts to promote justice and resolve misunderstandings among Islamic countries, saying these steps could strengthen multilateral cooperation and regional security. The president proposed closer coordination among Muslim states as a way to establish a locally driven model of stability and reduce the role of external powers in the region.

Zaidan, for his part, praised Iran’s support for Iraq over the years, particularly during the fight against terrorism. He highlighted the role of the martyred Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani and Iranian military advisers in supporting Iraq’s campaign against Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

The Iraqi judicial chief said turning existing joint security, economic, social and cultural initiatives into concrete projects could produce significant regional benefits. He also stressed the importance of expanding political and security cooperation to strengthen stability and contain the Israeli regime in the region.

He added that Iraq is particularly interested in deepening economic cooperation with Iran and expanding broader regional and multilateral partnerships to ensure that countries across the region benefit from their shared resources.
