Rezaei made the remarks during a meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, held in Tehran on Thursday.
Referring to Iran’s assistance to Qatar during difficult days and circumstances, Rezaei emphasized the friendship and brotherhood between the two countries.
The Iranian security official said Tehran does not trust Washington, lashing out at the US for repeatedly betraying diplomacy and negotiations.
“If the United States starts any mischief against Iran, we will inflict such damage on their military and economic interests that it will be recorded in history,” Rezaei warned.
He further stressed that the US must first take practical steps toward meeting Iran’s conditions, after which Iran would take action to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed appreciation for Iran’s assistance to Qatar during difficult circumstances and emphasized the fraternal ties between the two countries.
“We have never had any hesitation in cooperating with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Qatari prime minister and foreign minister said.
He added that amid the sensitive circumstances prevailing in the region, Qatar has always been eager to cooperate with Iran out of a sense of responsibility.
