Iran Sympathizes with Nepal over Deadly Floods

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson expressed sympathy with the government and people of Nepal following devastating floods and landslides that have killed hundreds and caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.

In a message issued on Friday after torrential floods and landslides struck parts of Nepal, Esmaeil Baqaei extended condolences to the families of those killed or missing in the disaster and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal as rescue and relief efforts continue in the affected areas.

In a message on Thursday, the Iranian Red Crescent Society expressed condolences to the families of victims of the devastating floods and offered to dispatch relief and medical teams to the affected areas.

Pirhossein Koulivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, conveyed the message to Bishal Kumar Bhandari, chairperson of the Nepal Red Cross Society, expressing sympathy with the victims’ families and those affected by the disaster.

Rescuers pulled out survivors caked in dark brown mud and helicopters lifted stranded people to safety Friday as Nepal and China raced to respond to catastrophic flash floods that have killed more than 470 people and left more than 1,500 missing.

Nepal authorities said the death toll there rose to 469, injured people were taken to hospitals and helicopters carried more than 3,000 people to safety.
