Foreign Ministry Warns of Consequences of US Aggression against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a new US military attack on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that Washington and all parties assisting its actions will bear full responsibility for the consequences of further aggression against Iran.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said the “terrorist US army” attacked parts of Larak Island on Sunday evening, August 30, in another violation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The attack resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several “brave defenders of the homeland and dear compatriots” and caused damage to public and private property, the statement said.

In response, and in accordance with the inherent right of legitimate self-defense, Iran’s Armed Forces launched “defensive and crushing strikes” against US military bases in Jordan as the origin and support point for the US military aggression against Iran, it added.

The Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the US attack on Larak, calling it an “obvious violation of paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter.” It also reminded the UN Security Council and the secretary general of their responsibility to uphold international peace and security and hold the aggressor accountable.

The ministry further addressed the UN secretary general, the president of the Security Council and all governments that have expressed concern over continued insecurity in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the only factor responsible for insecurity along regional shipping routes has been the “illegal and aggressive actions” of the US and the Israeli regime.

According to the statement, those actions began with the attack on Iran on February 28 and have continued in various forms over the past six months, including a maritime blockade and other provocative and interventionist measures.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that Iran’s Armed Forces would not hesitate to exercise their inherent right to legitimate self-defense and would respond decisively and appropriately to any military aggression by the enemy.

“It is obvious that full responsibility for the consequences of America’s new aggressive actions, as well as the continuation of the maritime blockade and economic war against Iran, rests with the US regime and all parties that in any way cooperate or participate in preparing and implementing the US’ illegal and unlawful actions,” the statement said.

The IRGC said on Monday that its Aerospace Force had carried out a combined missile-and-drone operation against US military facilities at Jordan’s King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases. The operation targeted the bases’ technical and maintenance infrastructure and fighter-jet facilities in retaliation for the US attack on Larak Island. The IRGC said the strikes caused significant damage and warned that every enemy attack would be met with “more devastating responses.”

The strikes followed Iran’s repeated warnings that attacks against its territory, particularly in and around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, would draw a response. Iranian officials have described the waterway as a matter of national security and rejected any attempt by foreign powers to dictate terms concerning Iran’s presence and control in the strategic corridor.
