Regional Stability Needs Homegrown Security Architecture: Qalibaf

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stressed the need for regional countries to take control of their own future, saying lasting stability can only be achieved through a new, homegrown security architecture.

In a post on his X account on Friday night, Qalibaf welcomed China’s emphasis on fostering common security, describing it as a principle Iran has long advocated.

“China’s emphasis on fostering common security reflects a principle Iran has long championed,” he wrote.

“Regional countries must be taking their future into their own hands, and true stability can only come through a new security architecture that is homegrown. Iran stands ready,” Qalibaf stated.

His comments came after Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a four-point proposal for building a new security architecture in the Middle East based on common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.

During talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Xi said regional countries should take charge of their own affairs, reject external interference, strengthen dialogue on peace and security, and explore a new security architecture for the region. He also stressed that lasting peace and stability depend on development, while calling for greater international coordination and respect for the UN Charter, international law, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional countries.

Xi said China stands ready to work with Middle Eastern countries to safeguard international shipping lanes, promote development cooperation, build mutual trust and address the root causes of conflict.
