Pezeshkian met with the Abu Dhabi crown prince during his participation in the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Saturday, September 12.
The meeting came amid Tehran’s continued emphasis on strengthening relations with its southern neighbors and promoting regional cooperation.
In a June interview, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran remains committed to improving ties with the United Arab Emirates, describing the two countries as neighbors with shared interests and a common responsibility for regional stability.
Araqchi acknowledged that the Israeli regime’s expanding presence in the UAE and its actions during the recent US-Israeli war of aggression had complicated Tehran-Abu Dhabi relations and weakened mutual trust. He nevertheless stressed Iran’s readiness to rebuild and expand bilateral ties on the basis of mutual respect, non-interference and good-neighborly cooperation.
The foreign minister also said lasting security in the Persian Gulf could be achieved only through dialogue and cooperation among regional states, rather than reliance on outside powers or foreign military forces.
