Addressing the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Behrouz Kamalvandi outlined Iran’s positions on its nuclear program and criticized political pressure and double standards against Tehran.
He said Iran has faced more than 25 years of pressure and sanctions over its nuclear program while continuing to honor negotiations and agreements, including the 2015 nuclear deal. He argued that the US withdrawal from the agreement and subsequent developments demonstrated the limits of relying solely on foreign commitments and prompted Iran to strengthen its indigenous nuclear capabilities.
Kamalvandi also criticized the IAEA and its Director General for politically motivated conduct toward Iran, questioning why the agency had not strongly condemned US-Israeli military attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
He said Iran’s sensitive nuclear facilities, including those located underground, have remained subject to IAEA inspections and that their protection should not be interpreted as concealment.
The AEOI spokesman stressed that attacks on Iranian nuclear sites and knowledge-based companies would not halt the country’s scientific and technological development.
He also highlighted Iran’s nuclear achievements in electricity generation, nuclear medicine, industrial applications and radiation technology, including the provision of more than 76 radiopharmaceuticals to over 230 medical centers nationwide.
Kamalvandi concluded by saying that the Iranian people have paid a heavy price for independence and dignity and would not surrender to bullies.
He reiterated martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s stated position, saying, “Nuclear energy for all and nuclear weapons for no one.”
