The national flag carrier said on Tuesday that no official directive or instruction has so far been received from the civil aviation authorities of Turkey, the Republic of Azerbaijan or Iraq concerning the suspension or cancellation of Iran Air flights to Istanbul, Baku and Najaf.
Iran Air added that any changes to the permits or conditions governing flights to these destinations would be formally communicated to the airline if decided by the relevant aviation authorities.
“Based on the current situation and until any official notification is received, the flight schedule on these routes will continue as usual,” the airline said.
The announcement comes after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed on Monday that Washington intended to effectively shut down Iranian airlines’ operations worldwide from September 23. Bessent warned that foreign companies providing Iranian carriers with fuel, landing services or ticket sales could be cut off from the US dollar system.
The US Treasury had already announced sanctions on September 8 targeting 36 entities linked to Iran’s aviation sector, including the remaining Iranian airlines not previously sanctioned, as part of Washington’s broader sanctions campaign against Iran.
