Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart, Paulo Rangel, on Thursday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views on the most important international developments as well as bilateral issues of mutual interest.
Araqchi briefed Rangel on the latest regional developments, saying the insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disruption to maritime traffic are a direct result of the “aggressive actions” of the US and the Israeli regime.
He stressed that the revival of maritime security in the region requires an end to actions that create insecurity as well as US “economic terrorism.”
Araqchi also emphasized that the European Union and its member states should adopt an independent and responsible approach, in line with international law, toward developments in West Asia.
