In a message marking World Maritime Day, Farzaneh Sadeq said the continued flow of trade and movement of goods, alongside the protection of the country’s maritime borders, demonstrates the vitality of Iran’s economic arteries and its determination to pursue the development of a maritime-oriented economy.
“Iran’s coasts are the forefront of our national and economic power,” she said, stressing that the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, through the expansion of port infrastructure and its role in “transport diplomacy,” seeks to convey Iran’s strength through trade.
Sadeq emphasized that maritime transportation carries the main burden of production, trade and the movement of goods, adding that cargo transportation is not merely an economic activity but also a “field of diplomacy” demonstrating that Iran’s vital arteries remain active despite all pressures.
She noted that such strong maritime presence complements the deterrence provided by Iran’s Armed Forces in protecting the country’s maritime borders.
Security and stability in the Persian Gulf depend on cooperation, responsibility and an active role by regional countries, she added, saying Iran has consistently emphasized ensuring sustainable security in the strategic waterway and protecting the interests of the peoples of the region by relying on its national capabilities and a dignified approach.
Iran is seriously pursuing the development of a maritime-oriented economy by drawing on its extensive maritime and human capacities, as well as the modernization and smartening of port and navigation infrastructure and equipment, the minister stated.
