According to Tasnim’s correspondent in Sana’a, Ansarullah fighters have taken control of the road linking Sana’a and Taiz, cutting off the most important logistical route for Saudi-backed mercenaries and bringing Taiz closer to being captured by Yemen’s armed forces.
Yemeni army and Ansarullah forces have launched operations at several points in Taiz province and city since Wednesday. Heavy clashes were reported in eastern Taiz and in Al-Turbah, the center of Ash Shamayatayn district in southern Taiz province.
Taiz is divided into several areas controlled by forces aligned with the Sana’a and Aden governments. According to a September 20 BBC report, northern and eastern Taiz were largely under the control of the Sana’a government, while the city center was held by Saudi-backed mercenaries. Yemeni army and Ansarullah forces had also launched heavy attacks and were advancing in western and southwestern areas.
The southern part of the city and the road leading to Aden were controlled by forces aligned with Riyadh, but were reportedly under the fire control of Sana’a-aligned forces.
