Uncertainty over US Decision-Maker Complicates Negotiations: Iranian Source

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian security source said uncertainty over who has the authority to make final decisions in the US government is a major obstacle to negotiations, complicating mediation efforts and the exchange of messages.

Politics

The senior security source, speaking to Tasnim about diplomatic visits and mediation efforts, said one of the main obstacles facing the negotiations is the intermediaries’ uncertainty over who on the US side has the necessary authority and competence to make final decisions.

According to the source, it is not at all clear who within the US governing establishment holds effective and final decision-making power: JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, Marco Rubio or Jared Kushner.

This ambiguity, coupled with political rivalries and internal divisions in the United States ahead of the elections, has seriously complicated the mediation process and the exchange of messages, contributing to the current situation.
