Iranian Official Hits Back at Bessent over Fuel Shortage Warning

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hamid Bovard, caretaker of Iran’s Oil Ministry, hit back at US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over his warning that Iranians should stock up on heating fuel, saying Washington should instead be concerned about fuel prices facing American consumers.

In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Bovard said that while gas diplomacy is underway in Moscow, the United States is searching for diesel fuel.

He added that Bessent should direct his advice on stockpiling fuel to Americans, who have been paying the price of US President Donald Trump’s adventurism for months.

His remarks came after Bessent claimed that a US blockade of Iranian ports and the ongoing war would cause Iran’s economy to contract by more than 25% between March 2026 and March 2027.

The US treasury chief also claimed that Iran is facing a shortage of foreign currency and declining oil production, and warned of a major heating-fuel shortage, urging Iranians to stock up on supplies.
