“Once again, I express the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness for any contribution to establish peace and security in the region,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart here in Tehran on Monday.
Zarif also referred to the issues he discussed with Armenia’s foreign minister prior to the news conference, and said, “The two countries’ stances on the international issues were close and common, and we are grateful for Armenia’s supports for our country in the international arena.”
According to the Iranian diplomat, the two ministers have discussed a broad range of issues in their Monday meeting, including Tehran-Yerevan bilateral relations as well as the political, parliamentary and economic cooperation.
Among the other topics in the meeting were procedures for the expansion of ties in transportation, energy and banking sectors.
Zarif noted that he has also discussed the ongoing developments in Ukraine and Russia with the visiting Armenian minister.
“Our common stance was that peaceful methods must be employed in all cases,” he added.
Iran and Armenia, as two neighboring states, have always enjoyed amicable relations in a whole host of fields.
Earlier in February, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan underlined the importance of relations with Iran, saying that his country is seeking to improve ties with Tehran.
Speaking in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Raeisi, Sargsyan had announced that development of ties with the Islamic Republic is a priority of Yerevan’s foreign policy.
