Cleric Urges Global Backing for US Withdrawal to Secure Hormuz Strait

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An Iranian cleric said countries concerned about the security of the strategic Strait of Hormuz should support efforts to remove US forces from the region, arguing that stability depends on ending Washington’s military presence in West Asia.

Tehran’s provisional Friday prayers leader, Seyed Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard, said on April 3 that Iran has confronted global dictatorship by upholding a model of religious democracy and challenging US dominance while advancing the concept of a “new Islamic civilization” against the global capitalist system.

He added that the late founder of the Islamic Republic had led efforts against US influence, supported the Palestinian cause, and promoted unity in the Muslim world, noting that Iran’s current leadership continues the same path by maintaining support for the “axis of resistance” against Israeli and American adversaries.

Aboutorabi-Fard described recent regional developments, including “Operation True Promise 4,” as among the most significant political, economic, and military events since World War II, claiming they had showcased Iran as an emerging global power center.

He further stated that US military capabilities in the region had been weakened, pointing to setbacks involving major naval assets and attacks on American bases by Iranian missiles and drones.

The cleric also argued that Washington could no longer be considered a reliable negotiating partner, saying that the outcome of the conflict and the region’s future would be determined on the battlefield and by the role of Iran and its regional allies.

In his concluding remarks, the cleric called on countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond that are concerned about regional security—particularly the safety of the Strait of Hormuz—to stand alongside Iran in pushing for the withdrawal of US forces and the dismantling of American bases in the strategic region of Southwest Asia.

The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.

The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
