In a statement issued early Tuesday, the IRGC said its Navy remains fully committed to safeguarding Iran's rights in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, the “child-killing US military” attempted to provoke several vessels into using an illegal route after suffering repeated setbacks in the strategic waterway.
The IRGC said two violating supertankers were deceived by the US, ignored repeated warnings from the Strait of Hormuz shipping security control center, switched off their navigation systems, and chose to pass through a mined corridor, endangering maritime traffic.
The statement said the two vessels were subsequently hit and disabled.
The IRGC warned that cooperation with the "aggressor enemy", which has come from thousands of kilometers away to undermine the rights of the region's nations, or passage through the mined routes, would bring nothing but regret, financial losses, delays in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a global energy crisis.
The statement follows repeated warnings by Iranian military officials that Tehran would firmly enforce its authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
IRGC spokesman General Hossein Mohebbi on Monday lashed out at the US for jeopardizing global energy security through its interference in the strategic waterway and vowed that Iran would continue exercising its sovereignty and management over the strait with "strength and determination."
The remarks echoed an earlier warning by the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, which said the Iranian Armed Forces would not tolerate US interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz and would respond decisively to any attempt to divert commercial shipping or oil tankers from routes designated by Iran.
