US Strike Disrupts Water Supply to 30 Villages South of Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A US strike on a desalination facility in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan disrupted the drinking water supply to nearly 30 villages, an MP said, condemning the attack as a violation of humanitarian principles and international law.

A member of the Iranian Parliament representing Jask, Abdolkarim Hashemi, said in an interview with Tasnim that the US targeted the ‘Monji Jask’ desalination facility in Hormozgan Province on Friday night.

He said the facility is responsible for supplying drinking water to western parts of Jask, and the attack caused major disruptions to water services for approximately 30 villages in the area.

Hashemi said the desalination complex had not been completely destroyed. Rather, the damage was concentrated on seawater intake facilities and pumping stations, which are currently being replaced and repaired.

He added that emergency crews have been deployed to the site since the early hours of Saturday morning to restore pipelines and install replacement pumping stations, with the aim of returning the facility to operation as quickly as possible.

Condemning the attack, the Iranian lawmaker described the targeting of civilian infrastructure as "anti-human" and contrary to both humanitarian principles and international law. He said the US is attempting to pressure Iran and its people by attacking roads, bridges, and vital public infrastructure such as desalination plants.

Hashemi also called for reciprocal and proportional responses against the US to create a deterrent effect. He argued that the sources of the attacks should be targeted both at sea and on land, including all facilities providing logistical and support services to US forces involved in military operations against Iran.
