Three explosions were heard at around 3:50 am local time in Qeshm, according to Tasnim's correspondent on the island. The blasts reportedly occurred within the city.
Local residents said a missile struck a residential area, although there has been no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of the damage.
Later, the deputy governor-general of Hormozgan Province for security affairs confirmed that "at 4:00 am, a point in the vicinity of Qeshm came under a military attack by the American enemy."
The official said a comprehensive report will be released after initial assessments of the incident are completed.
The attack came after the US military announced the launch of strikes against Iran. In a post on its X account, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said US forces had begun conducting strikes against Iran at 8:00 pm Eastern Time, describing the operation as "a powerful response" to what it claimed were attempted Iranian attacks on US forces stationed across the Middle East the previous day.
